We are sending this email to update neighbors on the shooting on Rayburn Street that occurred early Saturday, September 30. DHIC spoke with Captain Bill Griffin of the Mission Station and here are some updates to share.
The Captain was explicit that these deaths are not related to the neighborhood geographically. A gun was found at the scene but right now the shootings are being classified as a double homicide. SFPD cannot release any further details out of deference to the victims and their families. However, Captain Griffin was very clear that residents should not be fearful for their safety as a result of this tragic incident.
DHIC had already invited Captain Griffin to our upcoming Saturday, Oct. 7 neighborhood party on the 800 block of Sanchez to talk about ongoing policing efforts after August’s triple-shooting in Dolores Park. He (or his representative) will give a short talk before holding a Q&A session with neighbors.
Here is the SFPD official statement issued Saturday, Sept. 30:
“On 9/30/17 at approximately 0931 police was called to the area of 21st St & Rayburn to check on well being of two people in a car. Police made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and discovered they were suffering from gun shot wounds. Police rendered aid and summoned medical assistance. Unfortunately the victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. The victims appear to be an adult male and an adult female. Unknown what the victims’ relationship with each other was. No suspect info or information that a suspect is outstanding. No information leads us to believe that the neighborhood is at risk.”
