Spotlight: DHIC Committees

by Carolyn Kenady

Who are we and what are we doing?  We are an all-volunteer organization of Dolores Heights neighbors focused on landscape, safety, and land use.

img_0154Our Gardening & Safety Committee hosts our monthly “Green Gardens” at 9am on first Saturdays (click here for meeting info.)  We clean up one of our public stairways and the adjacent landscape.  You can show up and wield a broom, rake, shears or loppers to beautify our neighborhood.  We also host block safety groups.

dhsudOur Planning & Land Use Committee advocates for balanced development that is consistent with our Special Use District and Dolores Heights Residential Design Guidelines.  We educate neighbors on how to engage in and influence proposed project designs.  And we take positions and speak out on citywide planning and land use issues facing our neighborhood.   The Planning & Land Use Committee meets monthly.

Membership in DHIC is open to all persons owning property or residing within the area approximately bounded by the following four streets: Castro, 18th Street, Dolores Street and 22nd Street. These boundaries include the buildings on both sides of these                                                                  boundary streets.

For specific details, see the DHIC detailed map.
